Día de Muertos Celebration in Akumal: Visit Our Community Altar
We warmly invite you to celebrate Día de Muertos with us at the Akumal Guest Services office on Half Moon Bay. Our community altar, located in the Del Sol Building just past La Buena Vida Family Restaurant and Beach Bar, is a place to remember loved ones, honor ancestors, and connect with one of Mexico’s most cherished traditions.
What to Expect from Our Día de Muertos Altar
Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a deeply rooted tradition in Mexican culture. This holiday is dedicated to honoring those who have passed. Each altar, known as an “ofrenda,” is a colorful display adorned with marigolds, candles, and cherished items that once belonged to loved ones. Every piece on the altar holds meaning, creating a space where family and friends celebrate and remember.
How You Can Join Us
We invite guests to bring a photo of a loved one to place on the altar. By doing so, you add a personal touch to this shared space of remembrance. If you don’t have a photo, feel free to simply come, observe, and learn about this unique tradition. You’ll find that Día de Muertos is more than a holiday; it’s a time of connection and celebration, welcoming all who wish to participate.
A Welcoming Experience for All Visitors
Whether you’re a visitor new to Akumal or a returning guest, we encourage you to take part in this experience. Our community altar is open to everyone, and we hope it brings meaning and joy to your time here. Join us, connect with local customs, and honor the loved ones in your life in a setting that reflects the beauty and spirit of Akumal.
